Our History


1914-1921



Founding

Timeline Picture

Grupo Cobán is born as a property owned by the German Anfonso Herring in San Cristobal Verapaz, Alta Verapaz. By 1921, a footwear manufacturing plant is established.




1951



Decade of the 50's

Timeline Picture

Entering the 1950s, a Guatemalan family buys the plant and gives it a new impulse. With the acquisition of Miguel Torrebiarte, a special stamp is printed on Grupo Cobán, which remains to this day.




1955/1958



First Branch

The first branch of Shoe Stores Cobán located in zone 1 of the city is opened, in an area next to the Central Train Station. In 1958, the Central American Hulera is founded, where the manufacturing of soles and heels of rubber begins to replace the use of leather soles, satisfying the market demand.




1963/1985



Exports

Timeline Picture

Grupo Cobán takes advantage of the declaration of the Central American Common Market and begins exporting to different countries of the Isthmus, along with the Dominican Republic and the United States.

In 1985, the Rhino brand is registered, which became a national and international benchmark for high quality performance footwear.




2014/Today



100 years

Timeline Picture

In 2014, Grupo Cobán fulfilled 100 years of operations. It currently has more than 600 employees, exports to different countries, and its Rhino brand is a benchmark of quality and durability in national and international footwear.
